DVD Region Encoding



Currently exists 6 global region codes that identify specific Digital Video Discs that are compatible with the standard home players typically sold in that region.
The majority of all current DVDs can be played only in one specific region unless otherwise noted.
Most of the DVDs which are available at Amazon are encoded for Region 1 (U.S. and Canada) only and may not work on DVD players in other countries.
Listed below are the six regions:

  1. United States and U.S. Territories, Canada, and Bermuda
  2. Europe, Japan, South Africa, Egypt and the Middle East
  3. Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, East Asia
  4. Mexico, Central America, South America, Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, and the Caribbean
  5. Russian Federation and Former Soviet Union, Indian subcontinent, Africa, North Korea, and Mongolia
  6. China
